What is Ear Pinning?
Children and adults whose ears protrude or stick out from the head often suffer from teasing and self-consciousness. Ear pinning or otoplasty is a surgical procedure that corrects protruding ears, essentially “pinning” the backs of the ears by suturing them permanently to the head, holding them in position.
Besides securing the ears closer to the head so that they no longer protrude, otoplasty can reshape misshapen ears, reduce the size of large ears, and/or help the ears to better match one another in appearance.
Dr. Lewis has many years of experience performing successful ear pinning surgeries on patients of all ages. While it is never too late to have ear surgery, having the procedure at a young age can spare the child the embarrassment of protruding ears throughout childhood.
Issues improved by ear pinning surgery:
- Protruding ears
- Mismatched ears
- Misshapen ears
- Large ears
