Liposuction: It Isn’t Just for the Body

When patients come in looking for ways to restore lost facial contours or to eliminate the bulge of fat beneath their chin, they are often surprised at our recommendation: liposuction. Many people believe that liposuction is only for the body, but it can be a great asset for aesthetically enhancing the face too. This minimally invasive procedure can leave you with a younger-looking profile. A facelift isn’t the only way to create a younger-looking face. Call us and learn more.

What Facial Areas Can Benefit from Liposuction?

Facial liposuction can improve the shape and contours of many facial areas. It removes localized fat pockets that often develop with age and weight changes. Dr. Lewis is skilled performing facial liposuction in many areas including:

  • Cheeks
  • Chin
  • Jowls
  • Jawline
  • Neck

Is Facial Liposuction Right for Me?

Facial liposuction can benefit many of our patients. Younger patients can often use facial liposuction to delay the need for more invasive procedures like a facelift. Older patients can combine facial liposuction with a surgical lift for better results. If you have pockets of localized fat in the cheek, chin, or neck area, you might benefit from facial liposuction.

Most adults that are not on blood thinners are candidates for the surgery. Be at a healthy, stable weight before receiving facial liposuction. If you plan on losing weight, wait for your surgery. If you lose a significant amount of weight after surgery, you may be left with loose skin. If you have medical issues like diabetes or high blood pressure, talk with Dr. Lewis about your condition.

Dr. Lewis believes in an individualized approach to facial liposuction. He’ll take your anatomy and your aesthetic goals into consideration for a customized transformation just for you.

What’s Recovery Like?

Facial liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure requiring minimal recovery. You can go home immediately after surgery (someone will need to drive you). You may have bruising, swelling and tenderness, but this typically resolves in the first week or two. Cold packs and head elevation can reduce swelling. You’ll also need to avoid vigorous exercise for about a month after surgery.
