Meet Dr. Lewis
A native of Richmond and one of the leading plastic surgeons in central Virginia, Dr. Gordon Lewis has established a reputation for providing personalized care that meets and exceeds patients’ expectations. The board-certified plastic surgeon started his suburban-Richmond private practice in 2010. He has been named a Top Doc for 3 consecutive years, and he earned more votes in 2016 from other physicians than all of his colleagues.
Dr. Lewis specializes in cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery for the face and body and is a fellowship-trained hand and microvascular surgeon.
Fulfilling a Lifelong Dream
Dr. Lewis knew as a child that he wanted to be a doctor. He occasionally accompanied his father, who was a cardiologist, and witnessed firsthand how a physician can help people. That’s true of plastic surgery, says Dr. Lewis, which is a specialty that he naturally gravitated towards.
“I love working with my hands, and I love helping my patients,” he says. “I take to heart the genuine gratification expressed by patients who are pleased with the outcomes of their procedures.”
Dr. Lewis’ down-to-earth, engaging personality creates a welcoming environment for patients who are usually a bit nervous when discussing their aesthetic concerns with a plastic surgeon. During the consultation, Dr. Lewis lets the patient do most of the talking as they describe their cosmetic goals.
“My top priority is that patients have a positive experience.”
Dr. Lewis completed advanced training in plastic surgery at some of the nation’s leading medical schools after earning his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia. He obtained his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond before completing a general surgery residency at the University of Colorado.
He returned to Richmond after being selected for a plastic surgery research fellowship at the Medical College of Virginia, where he then completed a plastic surgery residency. Before joining a plastic surgery practice in Richmond, Dr. Lewis completed a yearlong fellowship training program in hand and microvascular surgery at Duke University Medical Center.
Dr. Lewis remains at the forefront of plastic surgery advances as an active member several professional organizations. These include the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the Richmond Academy of Medicine and the Medical Society of Virginia. He is also an associate member of the American College of Surgeons and a candidate member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).
Outside the Office
With twin daughters and a young son, Dr. Lewis and his wife lead an active lifestyle that often revolves around their children’s interests. That could mean YMCA campouts, or an afternoon watching soccer.
Dr. Lewis enjoys being outdoors, mountain biking, kitesurfing, or skiing, depending on the season. He’s also an accomplished distance runner, having completed the Boston Marathon 3 times.
