BOTOX® Cosmetic

At our Richmond, Virginia practice, BOTOX injections are the preferred treatment of women and men who want to reduce forehead wrinkles and crow's feet around the eyes. BOTOX temporarily disrupts the facial muscle contractions that cause wrinkles between the eyebrows, on the forehead, and around the eyes.

Even though they are nonsurgical, BOTOX injections require a skilled provider who is very familiar with facial anatomy. Dr. Gordon Lewis, a board-certified plastic surgeon, performs these injections at Lewis Plastic Surgery.

Good Candidates for BOTOX Cosmetic

Most healthy individuals are potential candidates for BOTOX injections. Pregnant women or patients with certain muscle or nerve conditions should not have BOTOX.

Not only can BOTOX improve lines and wrinkles that already exist, but it can prevent wrinkles from forming. For this reason, many younger patients are turning to BOTOX as a way to prevent some of the visible signs of aging.

Understanding BOTOX

The active ingredient in BOTOX, botulinum toxin A, is a muscle-relaxing agent that has been used safely for many years to treat muscle spasms. BOTOX is not a permanent treatment and must be repeated every 3 to 4 months to maintain your results. Many patients consider BOTOX to be a part of their regular regimen for looking good. At your appointment, Dr. Lewis will examine your face and determine which muscle contractions are causing the wrinkles that bother you. This allows him to decide the best locations and dosages for your injections.

Cost of BOTOX Injections

Our cost for BOTOX treatments starts at $12 per unit; minimum $240. The total price is based on your cosmetic goals and the number of units needed to produce the desired results. We provide a breakdown of all costs related to your BOTOX procedure. We make absolutely sure that there are no hidden costs and no surprises.

Your Procedure

BOTOX does not require anesthesia, and the needle is tiny and well-tolerated. Some patients prefer a topical numbing cream before their injections, however. You must wait a period of time for the cream to take effect before your injections can proceed, but if you are sensitive, it can help you handle the sting of the needle.

Recovery

You may go home or back to work immediately after your BOTOX injections. No downtime is required. You might experience some slight bruising where the needle was inserted, but this usually goes away within a couple of days. While you will be able to see some results from BOTOX injections within a day, it will take a week for the results to show fully.

Reducing Risks & Complications

With any cosmetic procedure, there are risks that you must be aware of. To minimize the risks, ensure that your procedure is conducted in a safe and secure environment using the latest techniques by checking the certifications and accreditation of your provider. Accreditation boards and bodies are there to protect you.

Related Procedures

BOTOX targets wrinkles caused by muscle contractions, but some lines, wrinkles, and folds are a result of lost volume. For those, Dr. Lewis recommends:

  • Dermal fillers such as JUVÉDERM® and JUVÉDERM VOLUMA®
  • Facial fat grafting (using your own fat to restore lost volume around the eyes and the cheeks)
  • Medical spa treatments to rejuvenate the skin and smooth fine lines not targeted by BOTOX

BOTOX injections are also often recommended after a brow lift or facelift to smooth remaining wrinkles. BOTOX can also complement eyelid surgery that can be performed on the upper or lower eyelids, as well as facial liposuction performed to remove excess fat from under the chin.

During your comprehensive one-on-one consultation, we will cover several areas of discussion:

  • Your medical history and current medications
